My 15 year old son was put on Risperdal two years ago as a mood stabilizer, he had a horrible, violent hair-trigger temper punching holes in walls, throwing furniture, and wasn't even allowed to attend his regular middle school, he had to be taught off-campus due to constant explosions directed towards staff and students. Thank God for the Risperdal. He rarely even gets angry anymore, and I'm no l...

he shrink prescribed Risperdal 3mg a day then had me come off it. I had withdraw symptoms of fear and panic attack so I overdose and took 20 pills of 3mg then started hallucinating then attempted suicide by running in front of car but arrested by police. They did a procedure in hospital while pass out.

Lost my period, gained a lot of weight, had pain in my legs. I would not recommend this drug to anyone. The therapist who prescribed it to me, Dr. Katherine Watkins from Rand, would not even give me a diagnosis. She said that I had to keep taking this but would not give me a reason. I asked her several times regarding the side effects and she would not disclose them to me. If I didn't know better, I'd think that some doctors just prescribe it to see what will happen to their patients. It must be some sick form of "research" because they obviously don't care that the benefits of prescribing this seem to HARDLY EVER outweigh the side effects. Read More Read Less

My father was given this for tactile delusions of objects in his mouth. Unfortunately he developed Parkinson's symptoms severe tremors, gained 20 lbs and constantly was drooling. His new doctor recently took him off this drug. His weight has returned to normal drooling had stopped but still has almost constant shaking.

Initially the drug darkens your mood, leaving you lethargic. It makes mental acuity at awaking in the morning next to impossible. I have taken three mg of this per day for eleven years and finally am tapering off due to the ill effects. Further I have made great strides to improve my physique and will not watch this 'wonder drug' slow my metabolism so I can gain excess weight. I am not sure if this medication is intended for anyone aside from infants who cry too much. Further still, depression and anxiety are maintained by the over-identification with the disorder and being sedated so you sit and stew is definitely NOT what you need to be doing.Read More Read Less

Risperdal is the only medication that stabilized my mood. It worked wonders. I took it for almost 2 years because I was hungry all the time and gained over 50 lbs on in...from 127 lbs to almost 180...I quit taking it and the weight just started to come off really fast. I lost 40 lbs in just two months but unfortunately, the new medication I am on doesn't work and has caused me to believe things that weren't real, as well as hallucinations that I thought were real like hearing people talking about me around my bed at night, hearing dogs barking, telephone ringing and seeing people....so I had to quit taking it. The medication name was Thorazine.Read More Read Less

I was put on this drug at a rehabilitation center for traumatic brain injury. My wife and daughter had noticed a scary change in my personality once I left the intensive care/ hospital stay and was at the rehab center. Upon checking she found out the attending doctor was prescribing Risperdal and decided to research it on the web. She was shocked and scared to find her results and immediately went to see the doctor telling him she wanted her husband off of this medication. The doctor refused until she said I was a member of AA and had a strong background in abuse of chemicals ( alcohol) 20 years before. He told her he took me off of it but she found the papers recently stating he never had during my two week stay. I believe this horrible drug caused psychosis in me while I was there and also was the culprit for my loss of taste and smell. I do remember being able to taste food when I first got to the hospital but never again after that. It is in my opinion the wrong drug to give to a patient with a serious head injury as they are already fighting to deal with brain issues. This was 13 years ago and I have never recovered my sense of smell or taste.Read More Read Less

It's a good drug to use, easy for the body to take digest if you plan to take them everyday. The drug is harmless and very safe. Still, somebody might have complaints about their effectiveness in treating depression.

My niece had a psychotic episode. Doctor put her on resperdal in Hospital. Negative feelings, no emotions, blank stare, she said she can't stop thinking. thought she had depression, now she is on another drug for depression after 4 weeks, she is on another drug so that she gets some energy within 3 months she is on 4 different drugs. The 4th drug is so she doessn't feel anxious. My husband, me and my niece watched a movie called Making a Killing. Is is about prescription medicines in regards to the Mental Health field. There is no exact science to theses medicines. We called her Doctor and asked that she be taken off all medicines. My niece, husband and I feel that the resperdal started the feelings of being worthless, not being able to concentrate, doesn't enjoy writing or drawing anymore and she is crying all the time, she doesn't even feed her cat anymore. We hope that there isn't any permanent damage. She is only 23 and didn't even enjoy her birthday.Read More Read Less

It has caused very troublesome tremors throughout body, weakness, muscle spasms and increased anxiety. After four months of being off of it, the symptoms are getting worse.

I have been taking Risperdal for 11 years now, and overall it has worked well for the symptoms of Bipolar disorder- especially paranoia that I experience years ago. I use it in conjunction with Valproic Acid mostly for the paranoia I was experiencing back in 2002. I have been scared to lower dose or go off this but I have also gained 100 pounds and developed type 2 Diabetes. Stuck between a rock and a hard place right now. I would recommend highly if you can stand the side effects.

Well..a birth, there were complication that lead to near death...eventually was diagnosed with cerebal palsy...in 2006, when I was 21, I had a manic episode...since then, I have tried a multiple meds with terrible success...between the weight gain or just absurd side affects, couple that with having cp...I was a disaster. I dead start trying to lose weight after I got put on geodone 2 years ago. The drug sucked, however, I did lose the weight. I was on 5 meds before I went to the hospital and they put me on respiridone. This was in march. I did a 2 other programs after that all together, I went through months of therapy. This was in mid march. I am currently working with an agency that helps me be assertive..it's in erie pa and it's called the act program. I am going to be a recovery workers for other patiens with mental disorders. My life is amazing right now. My body is amazing. I love it. Hard work, totally worth it. My diet is amazing. I smoke, but I am in perfect health. I am pretty much a genius. Keep this drug available. For sure. Atleast for me. I am so good..I have cp and bi polar that I can't get social security. It's amazing. You have no idea. And my memory is sooooooooooooo much better. Miracle. Oh and MY iq jumped like 40 points.Read More Read Less

All in this class of drugs is supposed be unavailable on all markets since the end of World War II. All these drugs cause premature death by about 20 plus years if ingested long term with induce many health complications (diabetes, heart disease, artery changes, oxygen deprivation, tardic dyskensia--irreversible--etc.)--this has been known even before the experiments by the Nazis.
