My 15 year old son was put on Risperdal two years ago as a mood stabilizer, he had a horrible, violent hair-trigger temper punching holes in walls, throwing furniture, and wasn't even allowed to attend his regular middle school, he had to be taught off-campus due to constant explosions directed towards staff and students. Thank God for the Risperdal. He rarely even gets angry anymore, and I'm no l...

he shrink prescribed Risperdal 3mg a day then had me come off it. I had withdraw symptoms of fear and panic attack so I overdose and took 20 pills of 3mg then started hallucinating then attempted suicide by running in front of car but arrested by police. They did a procedure in hospital while pass out.

i have been on this medication most of the last 17 years when i first started taking it it made me so sleepy i would sleep for 20 hours a day had no symptoms due to the fact i was asleep they could of just gave me a sedative and done the same thing i gain over 120 pounds in less than 2 months and have never been able to get the weight off even though i conquered the sleepiness i also know i get the tremors in my hands and have sever leg cramps i have also started getting more beast size but the doctor ran a test which i don't believe that said it was not the medicine causing it and the are lawsuits all over the place for boys and men developing beast ounce i had conquered the sleepiness i went thought all my symptoms of schizophrenia to the point i was crazier than a loon for at least 15 years and all the doctors kept tell me i have to have it and they would say things like just think how bad it would be if you where not taking the medicine but i am sure of one thing and that is i had no improvement until know so basically they made me conquer their nasty medicine and my mental illness to be able to live and 17 years later all of a sudden the doctors are claiming their medication works and know that i have taken this medication this long i can't function in life i wish they would of just gave me a good sedative and some real counseling Read More Read Less

Has recently cause severe symptomatic problems with Hypoglycemia. Although it works well it definitely makes it hard to control weight gain. I'm either extremely hungry or have no appetite so it's a struggle to control weight and blood sugar.

No male wants to be a female. I never had so many personal injuries in all my life. This medication is mind blogging with female symptoms of males prescribed. I'm a victim also. My chest isn't the same and I had broken bones and knee surgery. I don't want this breast booster either

This medication was given to my mother after my sister moved in with her with her adult son, one that my mother did not want in her home because he had stolen from her. When she could not get him out of her home she began showing severe anger about it and she and my sister were fighting about it everyday. My sister took her to a doctor that specialized in dementia but instead of telling the truth why my mother's anger and behavior was so out of control, this doctor, who had never seen or treated my mother before, prescribed this medication. This medicine completely changed my mother from an active person to a bedridden person that had to be taken care of like a baby. She refused or wasn't able to function as a normal person. When another sister and I got involved and learned of the medicine she was being given we told my sister to stop giving it to her, which she did and my mother returned to her old self but with the same problems, the anger over my nephew living in her home, so the arguments started again and my sister, to keep my mother in a vegatated state put her back on it and that was the beginning of the end of my mother's life. My sister and I tried getting guardianship over my mother but with all the red tape and lack of money to fight it in court we had to give it up. So after a time it took its toll and only months after giving up the fight for guardianship my mother passed away and I know this medication and my sister is what caused her death!!!Read More Read Less

Have taken every anti-depressant under the sun for the last 20 years. Currently on Effexor SR with some relief. My doctor added Risperdal to help. I felt absolutely WONDERFUL...I felt like my old self emotionally. My husband even noticed the change because I had more energy, bounce in my step. It also lessened my anxiety. Unfortunately, I developed breast milk within 2 days of starting the medication, my breast doubled in size, was constantly hungry (gained five lbs within a week), and developed very embarrassing drooling. I went off the medication and the side effects stopped. But I'm back to how I was before I started taking this. I truly wish I could have tolerated the side effects.Read More Read Less

My 22 yr old autistic son was prescribed respiridone as he became very anxious and sometimes violent. He started on .5 mg twice a day and within 3 weeks it had kicked in. He was very sedated and his appetite had increased within the first few weeks, but 7 mths on what a different person.! He hasnt once been anxious, there have been no incidents with him, what a turnaround.? However, after the 7 mths of being on this medication he has taken a dip where many of his traits have returned, he is displaying the things he used to do before taking respiridone and the anxiety is back, i actually thought he had become resistant to it as he was being violent again. The doctor said this can happen whilst on this medication so it has been increased to 4mg a day its only been a week since hes been on the increased dose and the sedation has returned with lack of interest with activities, he sometimes looks a little vacant and delays in doing things or answering you, i do believe in repiridone though as it worked for my son for 7 mths. It seems to be helping my mixed moods swings but it also caused me weight gain, lactating breasts, and irregularity in my menstrual cycle. I have been taking it for 2 months and it is already causing unwanted side effects. I have decided to continue taking it for now though because it DOES help my mania/depression and mixed episodes. Sometimes the side effects are better than the bipolar symptoms, which are severe and debilitating for me. Overall I say it works but be prepared to notice some other changes as well. If these side effects worsen for me I will discontinue taking it. Read More Read Less

I am a female and I am not pregnant, this drug has caused me severe discomfort. My breasts have been lactating, I can't speak straight, eyes are always dry and bothering me, my anxiety has increased and I was given this medication for slight paranoia and bipolar depression. I was put on risperdal to help me sleep correctly, and now I don't sleep at all. I need to discontinue.

This is very good medication. I like it , however I have ruined my teeth from chewing so much gum. Also , lately, been experiencing horrible muscle spasms(very painful, after moderate exercise).

I soooo wish that people would put what DOSE they take on this med because a lot of these side effects are DOSE related! I took .25 mgs for a month and felt so great! I got off it ONLY because I kept having headaches that I couldn't seem to shake. If NOT for the dumb annoying headaches I would of NEVER EVER got off this med! the clarity I felt was something I've never felt in my whole life! the settling in my mind without so much chatter was so awesome! My kids loved me again! I was having mostly anger/mood disorder stuff so not really bipolar 2 but some aspect of it and lots of anxiety but this helped my anxiety too! I think this was a great med and am hoping to give it another try here soon and hoping for the best! Read More Read Less

This is very hard thing to see your child have to endure , there are other meds out that can help, think of the long term effect it might have on your childs life i hope this helps someone before they have a loved one take this Read More Read Less
