My 15 year old son was put on Risperdal two years ago as a mood stabilizer, he had a horrible, violent hair-trigger temper punching holes in walls, throwing furniture, and wasn't even allowed to attend his regular middle school, he had to be taught off-campus due to constant explosions directed towards staff and students. Thank God for the Risperdal. He rarely even gets angry anymore, and I'm no l...

he shrink prescribed Risperdal 3mg a day then had me come off it. I had withdraw symptoms of fear and panic attack so I overdose and took 20 pills of 3mg then started hallucinating then attempted suicide by running in front of car but arrested by police. They did a procedure in hospital while pass out.

This medication has been a godsend. I am pretty much on it as both an extra OCD med and an extra med for my major recurrent depression. I also have general anxiety disorder and mood disorder and stress because of everything going on in my life right now. I started out on 1 mg and am now on 4. When I was on 3mg I was having really, really bad thoughts and had a really scary time that scared both my parents and me. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that I had a really serious disease where I've lost two jobs in the past 3 years, have had to move back in with them to take care of me, am going to have to get all new doctors, including a new specialist in my disease at the beginning of next year, and get new insurance so some medications I'm on now I will have to get on new ones or have quanity limits. Since they have upped my dose to 4 mgs, I'm not thrilled, but I'm much more able to deal with things and maintain control of myself and at least look at solutions instead of being just so upset I couldn't even do anything but freak out about everything going around. I use this as both an additional medication to treat depression and also as an additional medication for obsessive compulsive disorder. It works very well for both. I'm on 3 mg and take it at night before bedtime. It helps my mind not race while I'm trying to get to sleep so I can actually sleep now without my mind worrying about a million things that I can't control. I still have anxiety; I'm just wired that way, but it definitely cuts way back on it. It's definitely helped me. I've never had the weight gain from this drug some people talk about. Knock on wood.Read More Read Less

This medicine was working fabulously to treat my anxiety and major mood swings. I was very impressed! However, about three weeks in, I started to lactate (I'm not pregnant). The doctor took me off the medicine. I knew it was possible but I never thought it would actually happen to me!

I felt like i was gliding around with a cloud around my head. I had to work hard to hear what others were saying -- daydreamy state. Much of the time i felt unfit to drive-- response time and overall accuracy. i felt like there were tiny needles tickling my eyes. i was in exhaust. 100% always drowsy. Frustration indeed.

Taking as a supplement to Celexa. Has helped a lot. I was previously taking Abilify but that was way too expensive and gave me tremors which this does not.

This is a very serious medicine which has spurred many lawsuits. Huge settlements have been made as a result of boys who used risperdal growing breasts. Nowhere in the warnings are we advised of this!

I used risperdal (or risperidone) to boost my depression pill and also for the schizophrenia I've been dealing with. Since my anxiety and depression have been getting worse I have been having paranoia that gets so bad that leads to me seeing things. After taking Risperdal, it seems like not too much has changed..in fact I feel im getting worse.

I was prescribed Risperdal(brand) back in 2007. I was also prescribed Paxil and Klonopin too, for anxiety. My disorganized, paranoid thoughts pretty much disappeared! OCD was way better too. Then, after about 3.5 years of treatment with Risperdal, I developed a severe bladder problem, in which I had no control over my bladder. I wet the bed every single night. It really was a huge disruption in my life. This is when my Medicaid plan went to a generic(However, I'm not so sure the generic was the problem). One thing was, on the name brand, I did extremely well! As soon as I went to the generic, my bladder, and my mental state sunk again! I do not know if this has anything to do with the brand vs. generic though. However, I recently stopped taking Risperidone, and I am not at all wetting the bed anymore! Itching ceased as well. Also, Risperidone made my feel the inner restlessness(Akathesia) where I would go nuts upon taking it. Good effectiveness, horrible, nasty, side effects!!! Nearly impossible to take for me, anyway. Try to, maybe even ask for an older antipsychotic, Typical type. This stuff worked well and then turned me into a bed wetting maniac, all hopped up, all day long!Read More Read Less

Prescribed for (self-diagnosed) depersonalization disorder, on first visit to therapist. Slows down thoughts, numbs the mind and emotions. Possibly caused lasting mental damage.

The drug worked well for the psychotic symptoms of schizoaffective disorder. The main problem was my breasts (and any area that had fat depositson my body) became very sensitive and tender and sore. Maybe a bit weird, but then I started lactating and I decided to try something else. Sad actually-- because the psychotic symptoms went away at a relatively low dose.

This medication is the one that worked best for me. I have had bipolar episodes for years. Just recently, I began experiencing somatic symptoms and severe panic attacks. The Risperdal helped me control the unwanted thoughts that I had a terminal illness, helped ease the somatic symptoms I am experiencing (somatic meaning unwanted feelings such as tingiling in head, twitching, head rushes, and so forth). Everything I have is contributed to mania. The Risperdal helped ease all of these horrible symptoms almost immediately and is starting to help me get my life back and improve my overall quality of life. I was so scared by these unwanted health concerns and feelings that I almost went mad and had no pleasure or enjoyment in anything. I would just worry something was horrifically wrong with me. I do still get the night attacks right before falling asleep but it is getting much better. I have experienced some minor side effects: muscle stiffness, increased reflexes, which may still contribute to my somatic disorder but they can be side effects (minor) from Risperdal. Do expect to gain some weight and be extremely tired but the tiredness does pass once you let the Risperdal work its way into your system and do its job. Please do read all of the side effects as all medications work differently on different people. If you have dementia or have QT syndrome or any other heart problem DO NOT take this medication. All I can advise is just tell your doctor your history of medical problems, like all medications, be careful. For myself, Risperdal has saved my mental well being and has drastically improved my quality of life and happiness.Read More Read Less

i have been on this medication most of the last 17 years when i first started taking it it made me so sleepy i would sleep for 20 hours a day had no symptoms due to the fact i was asleep they could of just gave me a sedative and done the same thing i gain over 120 pounds in less than 2 months and have never been able to get the weight off even though i conquered the sleepiness i also know i get the tremors in my hands and have sever leg cramps i have also started getting more beast size but the doctor ran a test which i don't believe that said it was not the medicine causing it and the are lawsuits all over the place for boys and men developing beast ounce i had conquered the sleepiness i went thought all my symptoms of schizophrenia to the point i was crazier than a loon for at least 15 years and all the doctors kept tell me i have to have it and they would say things like just think how bad it would be if you where not taking the medicine but i am sure of one thing and that is i had no improvement until know so basically they made me conquer their nasty medicine and my mental illness to be able to live and 17 years later all of a sudden the doctors are claiming their medication works and know that i have taken this medication this long i can't function in life i wish they would of just gave me a good sedative and some real counseling Read More Read Less
