I've been taking depakote for 9 months and it has some what helped my mood swings, but it has really improved my concentration and anxiety problems. Depakote combined with adequate nutrition and exercise is the ultimate treatment for my bipolar dis order.People need to realize that medication alone will not provide them the best results. The worst thing about the depakote for me, is occasionally I...
This makes you really not care at all. I mentioned to my Psych, MD that I would take a few extra any time I knew I was going to be under stress or in an irritating environment self medicating. He switched me to Latuda and I have been going down on this. I feel 10X more alive no more drooling no more numb emotions I actually feel like myself

This medication, in combination with a cocktail of others (Topomax and Zyprexa) my doctor put me on after one visit made me feel groggy, dull, emotionless, and apathetic. I didn't even need medication; I needed diet and exercise changes. If you take these drugs with a fundamentally healthy brain chemistry they'll ruin you. Use these as a last resort.

Depakote causes weight gain. My daughter age 15 uses 500mg extended release tabs at bedtime. She is still having a lot of migraines.

I was placed on this to help me sleep, for the most part. It did not work. I'm not sure if my Dr. even knows that this drug is basically a joke. He also said it would help with my anger, and it failed again. I just do not know what to do. He had me on 750 mg, then 500 mg, and I just recently quit taking it with no withdrawal symptoms. I was on it for 4 months with no positive feedback whatsoever.

I took this for migraines and it did not work at all. Plus all of the side effects were scary. Anyone who could potentially get pregnant be aware. I read about medications and pregnancy and this medication was specifically noted as do not take. I'm better off with the migraines.

I used it for epilepsy and I had to be taken off Depakote because it made me have a dangerously, low-risk, white blood cell count. Afterwards, I could not drive because I had to wait to adapt to the new medication that I was taking (which took some trial and error). The low white blood cell count made it harder for my immune system to fight off something I would normally handle well, such as a simple cold. I became very sick because of this. I do not recommend this medication. However, I do recommend that you become an informed consumer, especially with medicine.Read More Read Less

I began using Depakote when I was 16 on a trial basis. I do have occasional "jerks" or small seizures but that is rare and only around my menstral cycle or when under alot of stress. All in all I have had good control when taken properly.

This medication if taken regularly and with little/no alcohol calmed my boyfriends manic episode where otherwise he was completly out of his mind. Gives him slightly shaky hands sometimes but effective overall.

This medication makes me extremely tired and I have a lack of emotion. I am also experiencing double vision as well as seeing "tracers" from the movement of people's hands. This is extremely annoying. I also haven't noticed a difference in my depression or in my mood swings.
