I was put on Zocor and immediately knew something was wrong. Within 24 hours, I noticed my thought process was cloudy. Although, I wasn't sure what med was causing it as I was placed on Zocor, a bloood thinner and BP meds at the same time. Six months later, after fighting the cognitive issues, I developed pain in my feeet and ankles that progressed up my legs about 4 to 6 inches per day. On the 5th day, it was up to mid thigh and then tingling pain in my legs, hands and face. I have permanent muscle damage, nerve damage, and my joints are damaged. Shoulders, elbows, knees all hurt. My heart is damaged, and I have A-fib. I have to take meds to control pain from the nerve damage. My life has been ruined by this drug and I fight the pain every day. It pisses me off that the government has protected this company from lawsuits. I had a very successful and lucrative business that I lost because of this and now live on disability at the age of 46. I have been taking the medication for over 5 years (10 mg), and it has done a great job in improving my blood lipid profile. I have not had any side effects from the drug, but I am concerned about potential long term complications since not much is known about long term use of statins. I am disappointed that I haven't come across one physician who recommends taking COQ10 while taking statins since much literature indicates that statins have a negative impact on COQ10 at the cellular level, which has an impact on the heart. I have been taking the supplement along with the statin to assist (potentially) in preventing some unknown (as of yet) side effect of the drug.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed Zocor/simvastatin on 4 occassions. Each time, I had a severe adverse drug reaction including: hypertension, hyperglycemia, tachycardia, dizziness, aggitation. Finally, my cardiologist notated my health records that I was unable to take statins.

I have been taking this simvistatin for 8 years now and I have had nothing but problems with my knees, ankles, shins, just total body aches, I can hardly walk anymore, it is almost impossible to get up without help, terrible cramps in my legs and feet, there can't be this many people having the same side effects as me and not be the simvistatin, I'm stopping it today, I just hope it hasn't gotten to the point of no return to normal walking etc.

This medication has helped lower my cholesterol levels but I recently fell and ruptured my bi-lateral quad tendons on both legs. In researching my injury, it seems that zocor may be the culprit. I take 80 mg and I have taken myself off the medicine because of my injury. I had been complaining of my thighs aching everytime I tried to get out of the chair or couch. I believe it is the statin medicine. I DO NOT recommend this after my debilitating injury. It will be 6 mos to 1 yr before my injury has healed and hopefully back to somewhat normal. Beware.Read More Read Less

Thus far, have only taken this medication for one month and the only side effect noticed at this point is a loss of appetite. Not complaining! ;)

Initially I experienced severe muscle/leg pain using 1-40 mg. tab of zocor per day. About that time my doctor and I cut my pills into quarters (or 10mg/day). This regimen after 2 yrs. lowered my triglycerides and cholesterol to normal levels. During this time I was walking up to 3 miles/day, 3x/wk. and using free weights 2/x/week; also doing heavy yard work, housework, soring through the garage and house for an upcoming move. Then once I moved my stuff into a storage unit and left for an 8wk. vacation to Oregon, my regimen changed to very light physical activity: playing with grandkids, housework, some walking. Within 4 wks., I experienced extreme pain in my extremities moving to my butt/hips area. After another 8 wks. I consulted with my Dr. and we decided to do a blood test to see if I had a build up of zocor; lo and behold, even at 10 mg./day, I had enough zocor in me to have extreme muscle pain. I was advised to discontinue this medicine and wait about 6 wks. to do another blood test: to see if I still have it in my system. It's been about 4 wks since my 1st blood test and I'm still in extreme pain, almost worse now than before. How long before this medicine wastes out of my system? I've read everything but there is no advise or regimen to help me with the pain. Has anyone gotten better from this pain?Read More Read Less

High Cholesterol runs in my family,I have had 5 back surgery's and have Chronic Back Pain now because I still have other things wrong with my back. I also have started getting muscle aches in my elbows, wrists, ankles, knees. other places as well. It has worked well to lower my Cholesterol but I think now it is time to come off this medication with all the muscle aches I am having elsewhere in my body or go to a lower dosage.

I work nights for 7 days and then off for 7 days so I needed a medication that could be taken at any time, Zocor works for this. The only side effects I have encountered are not listed. I no longer crave chocolate or sour candy. I have been losing 1/2 a pound every day, hopefully this ends soon. I feel better, more energy, I am actually warmer and no longer wear a jacket whether inside or out. I take the stairs more, I don't sit and veg anymore. I hope all the good continues, time will tell.Read More Read Less

I am writing in response to a previous blog asking what to do. My doctor has had me on this drug for many years. I did not notice that I was accumulating side effects to match the long list on the pharmacy printout. I went to a natural nutritionist and dealt with the real issue behind my cholestrol which is to deal with inflammation in my body. I stopped sugar and gluten (which inflame your arteries) for several months and I have lost weight and now I am healthy and am quitting the drug today. The majority of our pain, if not from toxins in our bodies, come from inflammation, and the biggest offenders of inflammation are sugar (and all its sweetners, and wheat and all gluten) if you adopt a lifestyle of eating fruits, vegetables, gluten free meats, nuts and seeds your body will thank you with the reward of healing itself which is what our brains are suppose to do...check out nutritional response testing for help.Read More Read Less

My Cardiologist prescribed Zocor 40 mg after my heart attack in October 2010. After using about a month my cholesterol level was 70; but started some problems ( like mussle pain, dizziness; weakness; etc.). Then, my doctor reduced to 20 mg; had the same problem; then reduced to 10 mg; same problem; then 10 mg every other day. It was working fine with me. But, after a few months, now I started 10 mg every night recently, per my Cardiologist advise. Let's see how it worksw!

on this for 2 years...by the end of the 2 years I felt like I was dying. No energy, pain all over, no appetite, los 25 lbs without trying,I have had 2 spine surgeries and my meds were no longer working to control pain. Couldn't sleep. emotional all the time. Not the 1st statin I have tried, but by far the worst. I DO NOT recommend this med to anyone !!! Have been off it for over 1 yr. still not back to normal. Dr changed to prevastatin and within 1 month...same things. Cholest. over 300...wondering if I just have to live with it..better than the alternative ! Read More Read Less

I started over 3 years ago- Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, then generic simvastatin. After 2 years on 40 mg, I had a constant deep muscle pain in my legs and hips, sleep issues, foot pain, and fatigue. I stopped for 3 months, then took an OTC med for 3 months, then did the bloodwork. My levels were not terrible- much better than my original levels. But my doctor felt it could be better with a low dose. So I started 20 mg of simvastatin 10 months ago. For the past month, I have had a mysterious severely debilitating pain in my right upper arm. Last week, I realized it was probably the statin again, rather than my mild arthritis. I stopped statins for good. The pain gives me limited range of motion, but at least I am left handed. I am an RN, and will strongly advise people against taking statins. It's not worth the side effects. I'm 57, about to go on a Caribbean cruise, and hope I can still snorkle and paddleboard. I'm angry to feel debilitated. As others have said, I feel prematurely aged. I never had 'symptoms' of my high cholesterol- the cure was definitely worse than the illness. I'm a vegetarian with a good diet, so my high lipids are due to heredity. I'm going back to the OTC med I took- it did help my bloodwork. I took 'Cholest-Off' by NatureMade. My doctor agreed it's a good product. Amazing that statin drugs are still being used.Read More Read Less
