No side effects For the first time in the past ten years my cholesterol and triglyceride levels are under the recommend. Nothing else has helped me reach my goals without unwanted side effects and no negative interactions with my other medications.

took 20 mg. for a little over 2 months. Had problems sleeping. Started waking up at night with heart jumping (I am on thyroid med. It was like I had when first was tested for hypothyroid). Started being tired, dark circles under eyes, upset stomach a lot, headaches, neck aches, some muscle aches, wake up move and get charlie horses in inner thy, just plain felt bad. I quit taking it and most symptoms have quit. I guess my doctor could give me another statin drug. I am afraid to try another one. I have always worked out regularly and try to eat properly. Yes I am 20 pounds bigger that when I was 40. I am 70, retired from a utility company and have cleaned houses since taking a early out in 2000. I don't intend to retire in the near future. Doctor seemed to think that my liver produces to much cholesterol. To be honest I am not getting very good care from my doc. since I turned 65 (on medicare with supplement policy). Anyway there you have it.Read More Read Less

I have been on Zocor for several years. During this time I have had brain fog, severe muscle aches, and serious join pain in my knees, shoulders and elbows. Noticing hair loss after showering, numbness in my hands and feet during the night and especially when I would wake up in the morning. And high increase in sugar craving. I didnt put two and two together until talking with a friend who was on this and couldnt function...has been off of it and has slowly started regaining her muscle strength. I looked on the reviews from people on this medication and could say yes to many of the symptoms. I thought it was just my body and getting older. (50 years old) I called my Doctors nurse and explained to her whats been going on and she said for me to stop it immediatly. I have had blood work done every 6 months while on this medication and my Doctor didnt seemed concerned...but now I have to make healthy decisions and try start eating healthier foods and now I will never take this medication again!!!!!! My doctor gave me simvistatin for mildly high cholesterol though my ratios are within a good range. I have had mental fatigue and worsening leg pain while on this for nearly two years. My husband convinced me to try stopping to see if I improved and what a difference it has made! My mental clarity improved and the leg pains eased slightly. I tried to add the simvistatin again two nights ago and the tiredness and sluggishness is back in full force. It barely lowered my cholesterol so I am going to try diet and exercise because this is not worth the side effects. Read More Read Less

Zocor (simvastatin) worked well but in the last 6 months I had progressively worse ankle, leg, back pain. I was reduced to sleeping in a chair and walking with a 4 pronged cane. I notice leg swelling and finally stopped taking the drug. Within 1 week 80% of the symptoms that I had put up with for 6 months are gone! I will now try COQ-10 or some other statin if needed but I will never take Zocor simvastatin again.

Only managed to take simvastatin for two weeks. In that time, I was very tired had nausea, constipation, chills. I could not do anything, no way I could exercise. I couldn't even walk out in the yard without having to sit down because I felt so weak.

I have been on this med for little more than a year. I started having sever heartburn after just a few weeks but did not associate it with Zocor. I then started to have foot pain so bad I could hardly walk. I have spent countless amounts of money on shoes and pain relieving devices that have not helped at all. Some days I am so exhausted I cannot move. Recently I missed two days of the Zocor and my husband noticed "I seem to be walking better". That's when I looked up this drug and found this site. No one told me this drug could have these side effect to this extent. I expect side effects when given a new medication but I also expect them to go away. These did not. I will not take this med any more and will be calling my doctor and or researching other methods of reducing my cholesterol.Read More Read Less

I am a "normally" active, fit 64yr old Australian female with high cholesterol. After 2 weeks on Zocor I came down with fever, very stiff joints and severe muscle weakness and soreness, I stopped the medication a week ago and am a little better each day, but, the stabbing pain and swelling in the fingers of one hand wont go away. I am so sore all over, getting up from a chair is extremely difficult as my back and leg muscels are not strong enough to hold me up, it takes a while of hanging on to the table before I can walk. I had tried Lipitor,Lipadol and Crestor, and suffered from memory loss with all three of them, as my doctor suggested I try one more I thought ok, I'd give it a go, boy, never again will I take a statin drug. I just hope all the symptons will wear off very soon and that I have no liver damage. I did a blood test which will show if I have permanent muscle damage but am yet to get the results. These are very dangerous drugs indeed, stay off them. Read More Read Less
