Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I had to take this when I started being tired a lot and the blood test showed I needed it. I felt a difference pretty quickly. The only time I had problems after this was when I took the generic pill and felt like crap! I called the Dr. and they said it seems to make a difference more with this medication than many so I went back on the real thing and have been fine ever since. I can't take it one hour before breakfast cause my stomach won't tolerate that so they said as long as I take it the same time daily, that's the main thing and the blood tests will be consistent. So glad they found out I was missing it.Read More Read Less

I have Hashimoto's disease and have used this drug for years. I take 50 mcg Monday thru Friday and Saturday and Sunday I take 75 mcg. My thyroid doctor recently retired and my family physician now handles my thyroid care as well as my other conditions. I would recomend this medication to anyone. Thank You.

I have had my entire thyroid removed and have been on Synthroid for 6 years now. It took about 3 months to get to the right level, but I have been stable on it since then. It works great for me!

Stared on Synthroid 6 mos ago. Dosage has been increased twice now. The first increase was from .005 to .075, a increase of 15x the original dose. Last week that dose was double to .150, 30x my original dose, and the Synthroid is still not doing much of anything. Have been to family doc, and to the endocrynologist(?) now, had an ultrasound done on my thyroid, and no one seems to have any idea. My symptoms, other than my low hormone level, are completely the opposite of what everyone says they should be, ie... I am not constipated, I have IBS, treated with NuLev, and I am not tired, I am not tired but anxious. Going for secong opinion!Read More Read Less

I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect, or good results. Take your Synthroid as directed, which is usually first thing in the morning, ONE full hour BEFORE eating any food. Yet, ask your doctor about this. I also advocate eating smaller amounts of food if you have weight to lose after being diagnosed. I gained a tremendous amount of weight from being mis-diagnosed for almost four years. After beginning a course of Synthroid and revamping my life routine, I was able to lose 80 pounds in one year. I am now a healthy 138 pounds.Being very thin all my life and being tall, nearly 5"10, I feel like my young self again! I did not do any extreme exercise routine or have to starve myself to lose the weight. I've been a disciplined eater all my life. The key to using this med is, clearly, to stay in with your prescribing doctor and have your TSH profile tested often enough to KNOW your dose is appropriate for you. I have never had to piggyback additional T3 with my dose of Synthroid. Look into your diet, check what may be needing a change. Research the foods and supplements that affect your medication and may inhibit the full benefit. Also, at one point in time, I had fluctuations in how I felt; years later, and went back to my doctor who tested me and found I had been going through a normal hormone change (menopause)! I experienced symptoms NOT related to the hypothyroid and my medication dose was still fine for me. Be of good cheer, hope this helps. Sincere, Mare Read More Read Less

I have been diagnosed with a low thyroid condition and have been treated for 60 days with Synthroid. My doctor said I would probably lose some weight although I am not overweight or obese. In 60 days of being on this medication I have gained 12 pounds!!

When I first started taking the medicine it made me produce to much insulin and my thyroid went coo-coo. I started to hurt and swell, it was a scary experience. I called my dr. and he was like I should be ok and acted unconcerned, so I started taking only a half of a pill and things are great.
