Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I had radioactive treatment for an over active thyroid. this eventually lead to an underactive condition. I have been taking synthroid for around 20 years and have had no problems with it.

I had a goiter removed because it was choking me and half of my thyroid was removed leaving the other half inactive. It never woke up to function. Medication seems to take care of problems

The Endocrinologist prescribed Sythroid in aticipation that it might reduce the large numerous nodules on my thyroid (I'm 35, in good health, and blood chemistry showed normal). However, the pharmacy put me on a generic (which I took for over 1 year-this did nothing). Then I took the brand name for 3 months. Within 1 month I noticed a complete difference in how I was feeling and it began to affect my menstral cycle. Which still is not back to normal after 6 months. My edocrinologist informed me that taking Synthroid to reduce nodules is rarely effective, as we found in my case. It did nothing but change my menstral cycle/modified my hormones and now my general practitioner says I'm not ovulating. If your chemistry is not off, don't take it!Read More Read Less

Medicine worked well in the beginning, but now I feel I need a higher dosage.

Generally by using the Synthroid and not generic my levels stay in the area needed, although with the generic it is irractic between rx's. 90 days each. Can't seem to find a correct dosage with generic. Synthroid I can stay on .88 but with generic my Dr is constantly changing my dosage up or down. Why is that?

I still have many symptoms after 5 years of treatment. Sometimes I think I have an allergic reaction to the medication( shortness of breath)And have gone on to develope hypertension, diabetes, muscle aches and joint pain and weight gain. I can't lose the weight I've gained despite 4 diets and a consult with a dietician. I am now eating less than 1000 calories a day to ward off anymore weight gain, but unfortunately I have gained over 60lbs and am now considered obese.I would like to try another medication, but can't find a doctor to perscribe one. This drug does nothing for me. I might as well take an aspirin. Read More Read Less
