LOVE< LOVE< LOVE this medication! Got my life back! Have been on it for 13 years. Have SLE and suffered from joint pain and swelling, hair loss, fatigue, migraines, and other bad neurological symptoms, rash. Debilitating fatigue was the worst! Started feeling the medication working after 6 weeks, and took about 12 weeks for full effect. Took two 200mg tablets a day. Tried weening back to only one...

I have systemic Lupus...took Plaquenil with great relief over 10 years...then woke up one morning and left eye COMPLETELY BLIND. Eye surgeon diagnosed RUPTURED RETINA...little to no chance of saving any sight w/surgery, but might hopefully keep from having the eye REMOVED due to eye shrinking from ruptured retina. Surgery has brought back SOME sight...but little. RUN FROM THIS MEDICATION!!! I h...

My rheumatologist prescribed this for me after being diagnosed with Sjogren's Syndrome, just one of several autoimmune diseases I have. I originally took 400mg/day for years. About 4 years ago he dropped me down to 300mg/day. During all this time I faithfully saw my ophthalmologist every 6 months for checkups and field vision tests. Then last spring, for the first time, I had some problems on the field vision test. He said we would watch it. In the fall at my next visit I did even worse. Needless to say, the pill I took that morning was the last one I ever took. He referred me to a retina specialist who took pictures of my retinas both with and without dye. There was damage to my retinas but at this point we don't know if it is permanent. I can say that it definitely helped with my joint pain, especially in the early years. In retrospect I wish I would have stopped taking it years ago as I am really concerned about the changes in my vision. After all the years of no problems with the field vision test I became complacent about worrying about any eye damage. The retina specialist said that the cumulative buildup of the drug in my system over the many years I had taken it in combination with getting older was the tipping point.Read More Read Less

I started taking this drug (in conjunction with others) to treat lichen plano pilaris lesions on my scalp. Before the drug the lesions were scaly, bleeding and made my hair fall out. Within a few months the lesions dried up.

This medication made me hungry and I gained over 10 lbs during the 1 year duration of taking it. It also made me tired and dizzy at times. I'm hoping to see my Dr soon and ask for something else to take.

Took this drug along with methetrexate for over 15 years. Experienced weakness in the muscles throughout entire body. Doctors could not find the problem until it was to late. They stopped the PLAQUENIL in August 2013 and I died on October 23, 2013. 59 years old. Plaquenil had impregnated every muscle in my body and I died of congestive heart failure. This description has been written by my husband to warn users.

I have constant hurting from my hips down into my legs especially getting up off of a chair. I can't lay on my sides too long at night because the hurting wakes me up.

I've been taking Plaquinel for 4 years now. 200mg twice a day. I am taking it to help with hypercalcemia. I also have Sarcoidosis. It seems to help overall condition. I do have a rash on my ankles. I do get itchy and sneeze. I get my eyes examined every six months. Biggest issue is hair loss and psoriasis on my scalp. Unbearable at times. Using a foam steroid prescribed by my dermatologist.

To treat a possible inflammatory disease or beginning of RA. Just 9 days in and I have a painful rash all over my body. It started with a few small marks that itched on my stomach and legs and within hours covered me. I also had tongue swelling and sore throat but NO fever or signs of sickness. I have also had terrible neck pain since on this drug. In 46 years I have only ever had one other case of hives and it was food related. I will not stay on this drug if the rash continues it is more painful that initial symptoms.Read More Read Less

For 10 years I took 400 mg of Plaquenil and Daypro for RA. Worked great and no side effects. Approx. 4 years ago, I started cardio and strength training 4 days a week, dranked 16 ozs of water a day, and consumed very little sugar, chocolate and wheat products. RA disappeared. I decided to back off on the drugs to 200 ea a day. No change in RA so I went to 200mg every other day. Still no probs. Amazing what diet, water and exercise can do.

This drug takes a long time to work. Its not a take a few days and see immediate results drug. My doctor even warned me of that. I have been on it for a year. it started out awful. I was sick for a week but I kept at it. It did get better and after nine months I notice less and less joint pain. There are some side effects that have to be monitored. that is between you and your doctors but if you are at this point you see a lot of doctors already.

I been on this medicine less than a year, it helped with the joint pain but after visiting my eye Dr., I stopped taking it because she said there was a change in my retina in both eyes. Will see my Rheumatologist this week to decide what action to take. I will not take this any more.

Took this along with Cymbalta for mixed connective tissue disease/RA until insurance stopped covering Cymbalta. This drug helped relieve pain and inflammation only slightly. I had to undergo specific neuro opthamalic testing for this medication. After less than 2 years I developed enough toxicity level from it per the test results that I had to stop taking it. If you continue until full toxicity level you risk complete and irreversible blindness. Not worth it.

After 2 and a half weeks of starting this medication I suffered a severe allergic reaction Steven Johnsons Syndrome and nearly lost my life I was diagnosed this medication for Osteoarthritis, a rash is not noted as a reaction to this medication but dermatologist say it is very common. I would advise anyone going on this medication to be very weary, there are a lot of people out there that have negative reactions to this medication, its just a shame that the company that makes it will only put up positive experiencesRead More Read Less

I have mixed connective tissue disease with primary CREST scleroderma and I have histoplasmosis, so I can't take the usual meds. I had been in terrible pain that nothing was touching. Generic Plaquenil helped but caused terrible stomach and bowel cramping, bad nausea, and terrible smelly gas. My rheum changed me to the brand name and the bad cramps, nausea, etc., disappeared but now I have terrible watery diarrhea and my hair is falling out worse than ever. It did help my pain level but I don't know if it's worth it. I see my rheum again in 10 days and am wondering what've will do.Read More Read Less
