I was given an injection of Demerol and Toradol for a migraine that did not respond to my abortive medication. I went home and slept and when I woke up, my migraine was gone. It was definitely worth the minor pain of the shot.

I have had 7 back surgerys, and they had to fuse 3 disks ', now I have 4 more bulging disks, I'm in a lot of pain and about every 2 weeks I have to get a Demerol shot, it seems to calm the nerves in my back and I feel human again.

Emergency room visit for kidney stone. I've had these before and asked for Demerol but they thought I was faking and gave me something less effective. So I flopped around in pain for a half hour till they finally gave me a Demerol injection. It was like heaven in a few seconds!

I was given shots of demerol in my hip after c-section. Each and every shot left a huge welt that turned to a dark purple bruise and did absolutely nothing for the pain. They then gave me a pink percocet pill and that took the pain away immediately and I was able to get up and walk around.

I had an injection of Demerol in a hospital while recovering from a spine fracture when I was 21 years old in 1988. The morphine I had been receiving intravenously had been ineffective, but the Demerol injection relieved my pain immediately for a few hours.

My sister lost her life to this drug in April 2010. She was allowed by her MD to self inject at home and she died chasing a "high" rather than a migraine. All of your reasons are reasons for VERY specific and careful use of this DRUG! Very sad, and what a loss! Cris RN BSN

When I was treated with demerol inj I was in the hospital for abdominal pain. The medicine was fast acting, it didn't make me itch like morphine did, and my pain decreased significantly.

Used for sedation for upper and lower GI scopes. I fell asleep both times and don't remember anything about the procedures.

I was given this drug following my hysterectomy. I woke up in terrible pain and after several attempts w/another drug I was finally given demerol and experienced almost instant relief. The only problem was that it had to be given in the hip through a large bore needle rather than through the iv so after 3 days both of my hips were black and blue. But it was well worth it for the excellent pain relief and I would choose to use it again.

No doctors will prescribe this med that actually works for my chronic pain. I was in a 'Demerol clinic,' but was switched to Dilauded.

I was given this drug after back surgery. I didn't fall asleep and felt like I could do cartwheels down the halls. Worked wonderfully!

I was injected with Demerol after waking up after surgery for a detached retina. The surgery required a scleral buckle to be clamped around the injured eye so it would squeeze the eye in a way that would keep the eye an oblong shape so the retina would not separate from the back of the eye during healing. The pain was incredible. When I was injected with Demerol I fell asleep within two minutes and was out for ten hours. The Demerol brought immediate relief. This happened about 20 years ago but I still remember my one and only encounter with this drug,it is a heavy duty pain reliever that was a Godsend when I needed it.Read More Read Less

I had a surgery for ovarian cystostomy. I woke up in the recovery room in pain. I was given Demerol IVP and it was a wonder drug. My pain was gone and I had a deep and restful sleep.
