Gave to my 3 yr old as prescribed by dr. (1/2 tsp 4xdaily). It works great I have not noticed any side effects. You MUST be sure to question the pharmacy and the dr. about the correct dosage or look it up online if you ever have any doubts.

My son has had a cough for two weeks now. The pediarician gave me a prescription for Bromfed and I followed the dosage of half a teaspoon 3 times daily for a week. Well, on the 7th day the last dosis was at 7 pm. At 2:30am my son woke up crying and screaming and he was shivering. I took him to the emergency room, I was told that Bromfed is more harmful than beneficial and to stop giving it to him...

Stuffed head for a week, this contains a decongestant as well. It works for me. Much better than OTC stuff which never has the amount of medicine to kick it.

My two and a half year old was showing signs of a cold (fever, runny nose, cough) and would not shake it. I'm not one to quickly give medicine to my children, but he was not getting better so I took him to the dr. He gave us this prescription with instructions for 1/2 a tsp every 4 hours as needed. This completely knocked my child out. It wasn't just a "I'm sick and need to rest" sleep, but he was almost non-responsive. When awake, he would not make eye contact with me or answer my questions. I have an older son who is high functioning autisic and my 2 year old's behavior was resembling my older son when he is having an EXTREMELY bad meltdown. He has never before acted like this, and as soon as the medicine was out of his system he returned to normal (as normal as he can be when sick). I made the choice to stop giving him this medicine and hopped online to read side effects. Wow. Apparently our experience is not uncommon. I will not give this to my children again. -Mother of three boys.Read More Read Less

I am 45 and was prescribed Bromfed DM for Bacterial Sinus infection. I took one dose and went to bed. I awoke about an hour later with one major SEVERE stomach cramp. From my ribs to hips my body was in one tight knot. I could do nothing but cry and lay in the floor in a ball. About 20 minutes into the episode, I took a muscle relaxer. The episode lasted for around 45 minutes and it was torture.

Be Careful with this medicine. My Husband was presribed this for terrable Broncitis. The label said to take every 6 hours and His throat started to swell inside so watch your children. I read the reviews and I Know children can not tell us this. I could Not find Out what is in this. I will tell the man in the Pharmacy.

This medication has been prescribed for my 10 year old daughter and my 3 1/2 year old son. Bromfed DM worked well for my daughter with the only side effect being drowsiness. However, we have seen severe behavorial changes with my son. From uncontrollable, unexplained meltdowns to hitting and flailing. My husband and I were trying to pinpoint the cause and it just occured to us that it might be a side effect of one of the drugs (either amoxicillan or bromfed dm). Sure enough, this is a common side effect in children. We are taking him off of it immediately and have put in a call to his doctor to see what our other alternatives are for his cough. For now, I am just going to give him green tea with honey. Read More Read Less

This 'medicine' was a nightmare. It made my 6 year old wake up with hallucinations. His eyes crossed and he couldn't uncross them. He was better after an hour but still had double vision. All this between 3-5am. After sleeping until 10 that morning, he was better. We were terrified.

It is now 1:30 am. After taking a dose an hr ago, I am still hacking up phlegm. My chest hurts just from hacking alone. Did I miss something? 1 to 2 teaspoons every 4 to 6 hrs for cough, congestion and runny nose? This medication is not helping Sinusitus.

After 5 days with a head cold and terrible unproductive cough I went to doctor and asked for a kick butt cough syrup. I was prescribed Bromfed and have found it very ineffective.

My 13 year old son was prescribed Bromfed DM for cough and cold symptoms. Not only was it awful tasting, it did not work well. My son was acting weird so I looked it up and Bromfed DM has a very very high alcohol percentage of .95% per teaspoon. This is a 4 hour product and if you take it 6 times in 24 hours, that is equivalent to my 13 year old son drinking nearly 3 Miller Lites in 24 hours. I would never give this product to any kid under 21.

I have twin 20 month old grandsons. They suffer with outdoor allergies and asthma. This medicine is a Godsend for them. Their asthma causes them to snore at night. While on the medicine the snoring stops. When I take then off of it for a break the snoring comes back. The take 1/2 teaspon 2x daily. I thank their Allergist for it.

This medicine worked well on the cough but my 2 1/2 year old daugher had many side effects. She started getting very clumsy, irritable and talking out of her mind. Though the medicine worked as it said it would, we made the decision take her off the meds due to the side effects.
