I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and I take birth control for a few reasons (#1 to lower my testosterone levels, #2 to have a monthly period since PCOS causes a lack of periods). Over the past 3 years I've been on 6 different birth control pills, and Generess Fe is the best pill I've been on hands down. Every female will react different to the hormones in every pill, so my review will ob...

Asked for an IUD, instead was given Generess Fe. Terrible mood swings, weight gain, nausea, and headaches. Felt like a monster 24/7 after very first dose, Stopped taking after the third day. Remind me again why is this allowed for human consumption?

I had many bad side effects from being on generes for 2 years. Weight gain, acne, spotting, acid reflux, other GI issues, moodiness, hair loss... Now that I have stopped taking it for 2 months all of these side effects have gone away, however I immediately began having problems with anxiety and depression that I have never had before. I am seeing a natropath to get my body back on track and will NEVER take hormonal birth control pills again.

The good news about this pill is it made my periods light and short when I was used to pretty heavy periods. The bad news is it made my hair break off!! I had switched pills from Yasmin to Generess Fe but experienced so much breakage/hair loss that I switched back to Yasmin. Of course everyone reacts to hormones differently but thought I'd share my experience!

First of all, let me start out by saying if you got pregnant on this birth control within the 1st and 2nd month of using, that is your fault. On the label it states it's not effective until after a complete month of use so use a backup method. I have been on generess for over a year now and I LOVE it. No weight gain, no side effects, no extra bleeding except sore breasts before my period. I didn't have a period the 1st four months on it because my body fat was significantly low. (Bodybuilder) but I have never gotten pregnant which is awesome! Knock on wood. But I use more than one method of birth control. This pill is the best I've tried compared to lo estrin and beyaz.Read More Read Less

I started taking the pills on the day of my period 10/15/13. This is my 1st time ever taking BC. I used to have my period for 7 days with cramps, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea etc but it lasted for 2 weeks in a half. Usually the week before my period, I would cramp the whole week and get that bump. Also, feel very ugly. Now the next month when my period came, I didn't have any signs and it was lovely. It was very light, lasted 4 days and very light cramp. Yes I gained weight but I look good with it. My butt and breast got big but in a nice form. Especially since I'm a black girl, the guys love it. Overall for a first timer on BC pills, I love it. Read More Read Less

I took Generess Fe and had no problems at first. No side effects and it's very easy to use. But at the end of my second month taking it, I missed my period. I thought nothing of it at first because I'd heard it was normal. So I started with the 3rd pack. Halfway through that, I found out I was 6 weeks pregnant. Ridiculous. I took this exactly as directed, never missed a pill, took it at the same time every day. My boyfriend and I even used other methods of birth control half the time in addition to the pill. ( condoms & pull out method ) There is no reason why I should be pregnant, but I am. If your using this pill to prevent pregnancy, it doesn't work.Read More Read Less

I am on the placebo pills with my first pill pack and I am absolutely miserable. I knew their would be side effects, but not as intense as I have been having. I have had spotting/bleeding since week 2,and I'm moody. It has pretty much done the complete opposite of what I was told it would do for me. I was told it would help with cramps, and I have had horrible cramps (worse than when I was not on the pill) to the point where I double over in pain. I was told it would help with acne, and I now have it worse than ever. I also bleed and bruise a lot easier since being in the pill. I was also told that it would help with excess body hair, and thus far I have noticed no change. It stinks because this is the first birth control I have ever tried, and it kind of makes me not want to do this. Read More Read Less

After Loestrin 24 FE was taken off the market, my doc gave me a free sample of Generesse FE saying it was closest to Loestrin AND with the discount card I would only pay $25. WRONG. Read the fine print on the card. You pay the 1st $25, the company pays the next $50, then whatever is left between those and the retail cost is YOUR responsibility. Retail is nearly $100. I was LIVID at this sneaky advertising. My doc didn't even know the whole story. So, I was shocked when I went to fill prescription. But I covered it, knowing that I can't keep paying that amount. This pill has made me an emotional wreck. I cry a lot! I am anxious and irritable and sinking into depression. Since I already take anxiety and depression meds, this is not good. My first period on this was longer than I have had since my teens and twenties (over a week), and heavy for 6 days with clots. Couldn't leave the house. Right now I am unemployed, but once I get back into the workforce, I cannot have periods like this and still go to work. I hate feeling this way and bleeding so much, which also made me exhausted. This is nuts. Wish I could just get a hysterectomy and be done with it. My hubby has a vasectomy and I am done having kids. I don't want this anymore. The whole point in taking it is to lessen periods. Well... it failed. I am into my 2nd month on it. I'm an emotional train wreck. As for the ease of taking it, I had to get past the chewable pill aspect. Wondering how much actually gets in my system as opposed to staying in my teeth. They taste okay though. I just prefer to swallow my pills. I then know I am getting the full dose. I would be hesitant to recommend this pill to anyone. Read More Read Less

I am 22 and this is my first BC. I have always had normal periods, but after getting engaged I was told to get on birth control. So I started taking this back in April of 2013, and my OBGYN told me that it would take a few months for my body to regulate my periods. For the first few months I was spotting like crazy, but now after 6 months I haven't gotten a period at all! I have also noticed a small weight gain. My bras are starting get tight and my boobs are spilling out of the cups. Needless to say, after reading these reviews I am calling my doctor to switch ASAP!Read More Read Less

This pill works great for me! I have had not many side effects. My period lasts 2 days and is much lighter with very little cramping. This pill is much better than the last one which had unpleasant side effects. My only issue is the cost. My insurance doesn't cover much of it. Everyone is different so try it and if it doesn't work for you get a different brand. I don't see why some people freak out if they have side effects.

I usually have irregular periods. I missed 2 months so my doctor prescribed Generess Fe. It's cool that it's chewable but taking this drug was not a pleasant experience. For one, my mood swings were incredibly out of whack. I was so depressed and angry and irritable. I couldn't stand something like this having so much control over my emotions. I had serious bloating and my breasts were super swollen and I am already very busty so this was not very comfortable. I had painful migraines. The worst part about it was the CRAZY LONG PERIODS! I've only completed 1 pack and I got my period last month but it's still going on, 15 days now!! It's not really heavy but it's more than just spotting. I am on Week 2 of the second pack but I have decided to discontinue. It just makes me feel worse. Not ever birth control is for everyone. For me, my best BC was Loestrin. I hate when doctors try to push new products on you.Read More Read Less

Started this pill about 6 months ago. Was happy with my previous pill but it became too expensive. The cramps with this pill are bad, but not as bad as I've had on no pill. This pill makes me terribly moody! Also have noticed a little weight gain and increase in boob size.

I am 25 and have tried pills before and had raging mood swings. I was 18 and my body wasn't prepared for it. Now this little miracle pill has made me very happy. Of course the first month has its challenges, but my body adjusted. Bleeding and spotting for the first two weeks and VERY tender breasts. I take the pill at 9pm and get rather warm at night. I kick all the covers on my spouse EVERY night. We both can live with this though. Also, I did not get my period with the first pack. Each person will have a different outcome so just try it. I have horrible PMS, maybe it's PMDD. My PMS is so on point that I can actually track it on a calendar. I get a knot in my throat that won't go away cause I want to cry all of the time, I get extremely depressed, like thinking of dying and that kind of thing and I can't be around people, I'm too sensitive. As soon as my period comes everything lifts away like a poison leaving my body. I told my doctor about this and asked her if birth control would help, she said maybe and prescribed Generess Fe. She didn't do any tests or anything, which concerns me now that I think about it. So I started the sample packet on the first day of my period and it was pretty damn awful for the first two weeks. It was like I had PMS every day. I also had diarrhea and soft stools, nausea, headaches and my body clock for bowel movements changed from the late morning and afternoon to exactly at 8:40 every day right when I have to leave for work. One good thing about it though, it seems to have curbed my appetite significantly. When I asked my doctor for a refill it turned out that my insurance company wouldn't approve it without a special reason so I ended up going a month without anything and she prescribed Microgestin Fe for me next, the reviews for that one sound like a nightmare but everyone is different so hopefully it works for me.Read More Read Less

After reading all the comments regarding this drug I was extremely apprehensive to take it. I actually called my doctor's office back after my appointment in a paranoid state rambling about my fears of starting this drug. The nurse laughed and asked me to please stop reading comments about the drug and just try it. I have a history of Neurological issues and Migraines with Aura but I am also on medication for these issues and I have been on Generess Fe for 2 months and I love it. I have actually lost weight. I have some slight acne but it is nothing I cannot handle. I have not had any excessive headaches (again though, I am on a daily Migraine medication) and my period is so light and with no cramps I feel like I have won the vagina lottery. I also read how some women are CRAZY on this drug and I am normally off balanced myself but I think I am calmer on Generess Fe and it may have something to do with little/no PMS, slight cramps and the small amount of bleeding. I used to be heavy for 6 days and have cramps so bad they would run all the way to my knees and I would have headaches and vomiting. No more with Generess Fe, thank goodness! I hope this helps some ladies researching this drug as it is a life saver for me and my boyfriend. At least try it and don't let the negative comments scare you off as they almost scared me off. Good luck! Read More Read Less

I initially had horrible side effects ( headaches, mood swings, weight gain) with this pill. However, going on month 4 now, it has pretty much cleared up my acne, which is amazing for me. My weight has stabilized, although I am still plagued by the occasional headache. I will say this, it does make you tired ( especially the week of your cycle) and my breasts hurt around that same time. But, I was put on this for 1) to decrease the amount of ovaries on my cysts and 2) to prevent pregnancy. So, overall it has been effective. It increases your appetite but just drink a lot of water to stay full and you should be fine. Just give it a chance, not so bad once you're on it for a while.Read More Read Less

This is the first birth control I've tried, have taken it for a month and a half. First 2-3 days I had terrible headaches, which went away but came back during the placebo pills. I have a history of migraines, but only with light/noise sensitivity, no aura. Took Maxalt for the headaches, helped. Bust got slightly bigger, gained a little weight but I was very stressed out and ate trash, so not necessarily the medication. My skin was about the same, broke out slightly but I wasn't sleeping or eating vegetables. Extremely moody/meltdowns during the placebo days, but I think that is my personal reaction to the hormones, I had a similar experience before where the body chemicals made my emotions crash. No nausea, no vomiting, etc. During the placebo days, I did not get my period/breakthrough bleeding, but now that I am stopping the medication [for unrelated reasons] I suddenly have a tiny bit of spotting.Read More Read Less

In the first couple months of taking this pill I was ready to give up! My periods were crazy and heavier than ever and my mood swings were crazy! I also had cramps which I never had before and I was miserable. Glad that I didn't though because now I love it, I have next to no period really anymore it's VERY light, and my moods aren't crazy anymore which makes everyone around me thankful :) if you're in the first few weeks and miserable it's not abnormal and it will get a million times better!

I was on this pill for 7 months and I had been feeling horrible. Sometimes have my period in the middle of the month. I only went to get my cramps under control and for about 2 months they weren't. I did like the fact that it was chewable and minty fresh. I'm going to miss that part, but I am not going to miss the mood swings.
