I was quite stressed with having to go through this process but after taking the pills its not so bad. Took the first 20, I broke them in half so it was easier to swallow. When I got #17 I was already going to the bathroom! lol No biggies though. No nausea or vomiting throughout the whole process and I have a sensitive stomach as I have GERD. I started the process at 2p. I went to the bathroom several times, no cramping AT ALL. Your belly gurgles and you know its time to head to the bathroom. Started last 12 pills at 10p was going pretty clear by then. I went to bed at 1am, got up 3 times to go...my appt was for 7:30a. Last time I went was 7am. No issues. No headaches...no cramps...no discomfort. No kidney problems. I will take the pills again if I need to get a colonoscopy again. Read More Read Less

A little hard swallowing pills but one at a time is not too bad. I took meds at 5:00 and 10:00 p.m. - the only downside is that I did not stop going to the bathroom all night. Literally all night. No cramps, pain, nausea, headache just bathroom all night long. Almost didnt make it to bathroom at two in morning after second dose. But doc said good job - clean colon.

I have used this prep in the past without any issues. I can not tolerate the gallon prep or Miralax preps without vomiting everything back up. I was instructed to take Osmoprep at 5:00 pm, 4 tablets every 15 min (total of 20) the day before the colonoscopy and then 4 tablets every 15 min (total of 12) 3-5 hours before procedure. The first evening, about 2 hours after taking the last dose, I vomited. Not fun. Then about 30 min later, the prep started to work.. It continued for about 5 hours. I got a really bad headache and stomach cramps. Then at 0700, the day of the prep, I took remaining pills. About 2 hours later, it kicked in full force. My colonoscopy was at 1:00 pm and I was still using the restroom. I had a good cleansing. So that part is good. It's now 10:00 pm and I still feel bloated, nauseated, I have a headache, and still using the rest room, I hope it stops soon, because this is ridiculous. I don't know if I could do this again or not. I hope by the time I need my next colonoscopy in 5 years, there will be something better out there. It was easier to swollow the pills with apple juice than water. Anything to hide the salt flavor. Although after vomiting the apple juice with the salt flavor, not sure I can ever drink apple juice or Gatorade ever again! Read More Read Less

I have Crohn's Disease and have has 3 endoscopy procedures in the last 5 years. The previous two use one of the "drink a gallon of really nasty liquid" preps. This time I took 4 tablets with a cup (8 oz) or water every 15 minutes for an hour in the evening and then again in the morning prior to my procedure. The pills were mostly tasteless and easy to swallow one at a time. It took several hours for it to start working and lasted for about an hour. There was some minor nausea but went away when I drank a little bit of water. There is no comparison between using Osmoprep and the other preps that I have used. My doctor would have a battle getting me to use anything else in the future!Read More Read Less

I am having a colonoscopy tomorrow and will be using the Osmoprep oral. I used it last year with no side effects at all. The previous year I had the Gatorade and ducolax and got nausea and light headedness. The times the doctor specifies start at 5:00Pm and every 15 minutes until 7 doses are taken. One last dose is taken at 9:00PM. Gordon

This is the 4 th time I have used Osmoprep for my colonoscopy . I have had good success with it, although I do gag with the pills at times... I recently was told to try this "trick" to help with swallowing them, and thought I would pass it along . Before you take the pill, lick the tip of you finger and dip it in "lemonade powder" ( the kind you use to mix with water) place this on the tip of your tongue and then swallow the pill.... It does really work!... I did not gag half as much this time. Don't know how it works, but next time I am doing it again. By the way, I used 8oz water each set of pills.. I do not like Gatorade. Even the smell of Gatorade makes me think of previous preps! Read More Read Less

I was very nervous about taking this drug after reading a number of negative reviews. However, I fortunately did not experience any bad side effects. My doctor does not normally prescribe this drug and gave it to me only because I requested to take pills. As a result, his staff did not even know the correct times to tell me to take it. The directions say to take the first regimen the evening before and the second one 3-5 hours before your procedure. I strongly agree with the reviewer who wrote this is soooo wrong. You shouldn't have anything to eat or drink for 12 hours prior to anesthesia. This is way too late and you'll notice that people who wrote they did that were the ones having a problem in the morning. On the other hand, a friend of mine took the pills at noon and 4pm the day before the procedure. I thought that seemed too early. So after researching the times that a lot of people took the pills, I made my own decision to go inbetween - I started the first round at 3pm and the second one at 8pm (I had to be at the hospital at 8:30am for a 10:30am procedure). This worked out perfectly. Bathroom runs started around 4pm and by midnight I was pretty much done. I was able to sleep through the night from 12:30 until 7am. Felt ok in the morning and doc told me I did a great job of cleansing. As far as the nausea/vomiting reported by several, I did not experience any. But I also want to point out that although I started taking the pills at 3pm, I had NOTHING to eat from the time I woke up that day. Don't know if it's related, but I wonder if that helps to prevent nausea. Also, as several people reported, I drank MORE than the recommended amount of liquid. As I don't like Gatorade and instructions were to drink any liquid, I took all the pills with just water. The only think I ate the whole day were a few bowls of sugar free lemon jello. I would definitely use this method again - remember, don't eat for 12 hours before starting pills and drink a lot of water!Read More Read Less

Effectiveness: No, I was still emptying at the time of the procedure and several hours afterwards. Ease of Use: Tablets are much too large to swallow easily. Satisfaction: I was told to take 20 tablets between 6PM and 7PM on the evening before my procedure. I was up off and on all night, in the restroom. During the morning of my procedure, I was weak, dizzy, my eyes would not focus. I was told to take 12 tablets between noon and 1PM on the day of my procedure. By the time I needed to head to the hospital for my procedure at 3PM, I was still rushing to the restroom, I could barely walk, I was extremely light-headed, and I even had trouble talking. For two days following my procedure (which was a routine colonoscopy that found absolutely no problems)I continued to have stomach cramping and nausea. In Summary: This is a horribly strong medication that caused severe symptoms. I basically lost four days of my life due to this medication. Read More Read Less

It felt like lots of tablets, never ending. Finally, at night before the exam, I started vomiting blood with no known inflammatory bowel disease. I had to be in emergency room all night. They stabilized me but as result I did not have a completely emptied colon. The test was mostly an waste of time and money and they asked to repeat in 2 years with a different bowel prep.

OsmoPrep is a gift from the gods. I've had numerous colonoscopies since the first doctor didn't take good notes and the successive doctors, wanting to CYA, wanted to err on the side of caution. You take 20 pills at night, 4 every 15 minutes, with 8 oz. of clear liquid. After about 2 hours, voila! Results. You take 12 the next morning. After an hour, results! There were no after-effects. As for the price, I paid $110; insurance paid $60. When compared to the liquid, where I'd drink 4 oz., throw up 3; drink 3 oz., throw up 2, is there a comparison? It's like night and day. The pills are a gift. For the person who complained at having to pay $25, consider yourself lucky. I'd pay $200 not to have to swallow that liquid! Please ask your doctor to prescribe OsmoPrep. Worth every penny!Read More Read Less

Medication took longer than expected to kick in. Took a little over 3 hours. Doctor said he couldn't find anything during my colonoscopy and commented that my prep was great. Prescription directions warned of possible kidney damage side effects. I drank over 2 gallons of liquids that day. I'm hoping that was enough to combat any side effects. I also drank a lot of fluids the days following the procedure.

It took 4 hours after the the first round to kick in. By that time it was already time for the second round. 1.5 hours later I vomited profusely and had to drink a lot of water afterwards. No water allowed after midnight so i was really dehydrated from 3am on. I didn't sleep all night but it cleaned out everything effectively. Overall, it worked and it only gave me very minor cramping.

My husband took Miralax for his colonoscopy prep and broke out in hives and severe itching. His reaction caused a completely postponement. The doctor prescribed Osmoprep and rescheduled the procedure. The same thing happened after just 4 pills: severe itching in every area of the body, head to toe, and burning sensation behind his eyes and in his feet. Needless to say, the procedure is again going to be postponed. What is the ingredient in both that would cause this kind of reaction? He is taking no other medication. I don't know how he'll get to have a colonoscopy at this point. Maybe we'll just skip it...Read More Read Less

I was not told by my doctor of the possible side effects or I would not have used this method of colon cleansing before my colonoscopy. I am four weeks post the procedure and hopefully no kidney damage will occur. Am I out of danger at four weeks post using the product?

Days after taking osmoprep and having a colonoscopy my husband was rushed to the hospital with severe dehydration. Twelve hours later he underwent surgery that removed his entire colon and all but 160 cm of his small intestine, which were entirely dead. He nearly died. We have been eight weeks now in the ICU and he still has a long way to go toward any kind of recovery that will allow us to leave the hospital.

I used Osmo Prep for my eighth colonoscopy. It made the prep tolerable, as it was much better than having to choke down a foul-tasting liquid.

I took pills as directed. No upset stomach, headaches or anything else. It worked without a lot of stomach pain. A little worried that the effects would not be finished before my exam.

I was given this option because I can't drink a lot of liquid at once. (gastric bypass and my stomach is so small) My first day was clear liquids and a bottle of a VERY SOUR LEMON and salty stuff - but it was about the size of an old fashioned Coke bottle so I got it down in about 5 takes. Day 2 I took 20 pills at 15 minute intervals starting at 8AM. They worked FAST! I was clear by late PM. Took the remaining 12 pills at 6PM and it took about 90 to run clear again. I'm really hungry from no food for 2 days but this sure beats that horrible stuff my husband had to drink in March. I, too, wish they were smaller. I have a hard time swallowing large pills. This was for a colonoscopy. Read More Read Less

I am 50 and had never been to a hospital except to visit someone. I say that because I am a relatively healthy guy. I've had virtually no health problems. I am 5'11'' and weigh 185 pounds. I decided that since I was 50 that I would get a colonoscopy for pre-cautionary reasons only. The prep went very smoothly. I don't have a problem taking pills and downed them with no problems. I drank Gatorade, approximately 64 ounces when taking the pills. My kidneys starting hurting the night of the prep. It has been 4 days now since I took the prep and my kidneys are still hurting. The pain hasn't subsided either. I called the doctor that did the colonoscopy, he didn't have the time honestly to talk to me and told me that the pain probably wasn't my kidneys and muscular instead. He also told me that if I was concerned about it to contact the general medical doctor that recommended him. I did call the general medical doctor and went in the day after the colonoscopy. The doctor had blood drawn and I provided a urine sample. I am waiting for the blood test results. I will never take the Osmo-prep again and will tell everyone that I know about me experience. I have confirmed that other people have had kidney problems/pain with the Osmo-prep. Some patients have actually had kidney failure. A Pharmacist that I talked to recently knew about the risks of using this prep, he was very familiar with the problems with the prep but yet the doctor that did the colonscopy frankly just put me off. I suspect that the doctor knew that there was the possibility that I really did have kidney pain. I would think twice before taking this prep.Read More Read Less

I am 38 and 135 pounds. I found this site looking to see if anybody else had the same side effects as I did. My side effects were a runny nose, itching fingers, hands and feet, that did not seem to last that long. This is my 4th colonoscopy, and my first time trying the osmoprep. I was a little concerned because I was not going to the bathroom clear when I went to bed last night like my previous preps. I slept all night and finished the pills at 6:45AM, this time just my fingers itched and my nose ran a little, and by 7:30 I am going clear and my symptoms are gone. My procedure is at 11:00 today. The only discomfort I am feeling right now is from wiping so much and the inconvenient trips to the bathroom. Also the more pills I took the harder they seemed to go down. I think that was due to my feeling of fullness from drinking so much water with them. Any type of colonoscopy prep is unpleasant but osmoprep in my opinion is by far the easiest to manage. I will definitely use osmo for my 5th colonoscopy. Be sure to talk to your physician and do your research before deciding to use it because for some there are health risks involved. Good Luck!Read More Read Less
