Female pelvic pain is considered chronic if it has been around for at least 6 months. In some women, the pain is mild; in others, it interferes with activities of daily living. Causes of chronic pelvic pain may include endometriosis, uterine fibroids, scar tissue in the pelvic area, a sexually transmitted disease, and physical or sexual abuse. Symptoms include severe cramping during periods and painful intercourse.
